Today is the day we go back to the future!

The following has absolutely nothing to do with the Back to the Future reference above, unless it’s just more of the nerd in me coming out! Either way, tomorrow is the Back to the Future day, and if you grew up in the 80’s and 90s, this is a big deal!! Squirrel….now, post about food!

Do you ever drive by a restaurant or eatery and get a whiff of whatever it is they have going on inside and think to yourself, “man, I’m hungry?”

This is a sign you should listen to. However, it may not be the answer you want to hear!

Most people, when in a state of hunger or malnourishment, don’t know how to react. They let the cravings get the best of them and decide to head into that restaurant or eatery that smelled so good as they walked or drove by.

I too experience this same sensation. I listen to my body’s signal however, a little differently and want to urge you all to do the same. If this ever happens, recognize that you are hungry and you probably have been for a while. (Imagine if you were already full and then walked/drove by this same smell, would you still crave it as much?) Trust that if you feel this way, you are hungry. And, this means don’t just run to the nearest place that serves something that may or may not qualify as food. Recognize your hunger, try not to get too hangry, and then make a rational choice on what foods you should eat.

One way to prevent this from happening is ensuring you eat before you go do a bunch of tasks. Yes, if you eat at 7 in the morning, then just go about your day and hope that you eat at another point in the day, you are probably setting yourself up for failure. Budget your meals throughout the day similar to your checkbook. If you know you need a lunch during work, bring one with you. Or, have a plan of where you’re going to eat for lunch. Lead the way, don’t let co-workers always decide where YOU should eat.

I know it’s hard to make the better choice when it comes to eating. However, I’m here to tell you that once you clean up your diet, remove all the junk, and then feel good, you will think twice before you un-do all your hard work.
